Liverpool secured a 2–0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield on Saturday, with Hugo Ekitike scoring both goals in a Premier League encounter that ended the defending champions’ recent run of inconsistent form.
Ekitike gave Liverpool the perfect start, finding the net in the opening minute to put the hosts ahead. Brighton attempted to respond and enjoyed spells of possession, but Liverpool remained the sharper side throughout the contest.
The home side doubled their advantage on the hour mark when Mohamed Salah delivered a corner that found Ekitike unmarked at the far post, allowing the French forward to head home his second goal of the match.
Brighton created several chances in the second half, with Kaoru Mitoma forcing a save from Alisson and Iliman Ndiaye hitting the post late on, but Liverpool’s defence held firm to secure a clean sheet.
Salah, who returned to the matchday squad after recent off-field tensions, came off the bench and was involved in multiple attacking moves, though he missed two late chances to add to the scoreline.
The win lifts Liverpool to sixth place in the Premier League standings, having started the day two positions below Brighton on equal points. It was also Liverpool’s first league win in three matches, following two consecutive draws.
Liverpool will now look to build momentum as the season progresses, while Brighton are left to reflect on missed opportunities despite periods of positive play.
