Former Nigerian lawmaker Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, who represented Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has died after a prolonged illness.

Okay News reports that Nwaoboshi’s death was confirmed on Friday in a statement issued by Festus Ahon, Chief Press Secretary to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Reacting to the loss, Governor Oborevwori described Nwaoboshi’s passing as a major blow to Delta State, the Anioma people, and Nigeria as a whole, noting that the former senator was a fearless advocate for his constituency and a respected national figure.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the loss of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” Oborevwori said.

“I extend my sincere condolences to his immediate family, the Anioma nation, members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and all those who were touched by his life and service.”

The governor recalled Nwaoboshi’s influential role in the National Assembly, particularly his tenure as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, where he consistently pushed for policies and interventions aimed at the development of the Niger Delta region and Delta State.

Oborevwori also noted that the late senator’s political journey was shaped by strong party roots and a commitment to democratic ideals, having previously served two terms as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State.

Describing him as a devoted public servant, the governor said Nwaoboshi dedicated his life to the service of his people, his party, and the nation, leaving behind a legacy marked by courage, loyalty, and principled leadership.

Senator Nwaoboshi served in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2023.
