DR Congo kicked off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Benin at Al Medina Stadium in Rabat on December 23.
Theo Bongonda’s early strike in the 16th minute proved decisive, converting Arthur Masuaku’s delivery to give the Leopards an early lead.
Benin dominated possession in the first half but struggled to create clear chances. Despite late pressure, including attempts from Aiyegun Tosin and Romaric Amoussou, the Cheetahs were unable to find an equaliser. Additionally, Lionel Mpasi’s crucial saves ensured the Leopards held on for all three points.
The win has positioned DR Congo strongly in Group D, as they prepare to face Senegal in the next round.
