Burkina Faso claimed a dramatic opening victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, edging Equatorial Guinea 2–1 in a tense Group E encounter decided deep into stoppage time.
Equatorial Guinea stunned the Stallions with a late opener despite playing with 10 men, as Marvin Anieboh headed home in the 85th minute. But Burkina Faso responded almost immediately, with Georgi Minoungou firing in the equaliser in the 95th minute to swing momentum.
Just three minutes later, Edmond Tapsoba rose highest to head in the winner, sealing all three points for Burkina Faso in a thrilling finish and giving them a strong start to their AFCON campaign.
