‘A Fight You Can’t Fight, Don’t Start It’ — Wike Tells Makinde Over Political Clashes

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has publicly mocked Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde during the 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning him against starting political battles he cannot finish.

Okay News reports that Wike delivered the blunt remarks on Monday, describing claims allegedly made by Makinde regarding meetings between him and the President as “unfortunate” and misleading.

Distinguishing between political ambition and business ventures, Wike stated, “You wanted money; I wanted power. Stay where you are as a contractor.” He further emphasized that he entered politics to acquire power rather than to secure corporate contracts, taking a direct swipe at Makinde’s business background while urging him to stick to what he knows.

Using the occasion to caution party members against unnecessary political bravado, the FCT Minister stressed that politics requires careful strategy rather than empty posturing.

Looking ahead to the PDP’s upcoming national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, Wike issued a stern warning to members to demonstrate unwavering loyalty and commitment, threatening to permanently sideline anyone who fails to do so. Despite his harsh tone, he concluded his address by urging party leaders to intensify their reconciliation efforts while demanding absolute sincerity from all members moving forward.
