ABUJA, Nigeria – Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has formally appeared before the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Screening Committee for the Gombe State governorship race.
Okay News reports that the screening exercise took place on Saturday morning at the Kaduna State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja. The move signals his official progression toward the party’s primary elections, which are expected to hold within the next two weeks.
The screening appearance comes on the heels of a deepening political rift in Gombe State over the selection of the party’s flagbearer. Earlier in the week, Pantami publicly rejected a purported consensus candidacy arrangement backed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, describing the local stakeholders’ meeting as a coronation rather than a legally binding agreement.
Pantami’s campaign organization maintains that under the Electoral Act, a valid consensus requires the explicit written consent of all cleared aspirants. With the former minister actively pushing for Direct Primaries, his supporters have been urged to remain mobilized while his legal team challenges any attempts at executive imposition.
