ABUJA, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the public to ignore various campaign posters featuring former President Goodluck Jonathan, which have surfaced on social media platforms linked to multiple political parties.
Okay News reports that the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, issued a statement on Saturday clarifying that the former president remains a loyal and registered member of the PDP. The party confirmed that Jonathan recently completed his digital membership registration under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
The PDP cautioned that the circulation of these posters is a calculated attempt by mischief-makers to create confusion. The party highlighted that under the Electoral Act 2026, dual party membership is a punishable offense, carrying penalties such as a 10 million naira fine or up to two years imprisonment. The statement suggested that “highly placed collaborators” might be attempting to fraudulent input Jonathan’s details into the databases of opposition parties to compromise his standing.
Putting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on notice, the PDP urged authorities to discountenance any registration data linking the former president to other political entities. The party reaffirmed that Jonathan is committed to the PDP and was a key participant in recent high-level consultative meetings regarding the party’s future and internal stability.
