ABUJA, Nigeria – Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has publicly endorsed the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) decision to zone its presidential ticket to the South ahead of the next general elections.

Speaking to delegates, the political heavyweight stated his full support for the zoning arrangement, noting that it strategically allows the southern region to “complete its turn in producing national leadership.”
Kwankwaso framed the consensus as a crucial step toward true national healing and unity. Drawing on historical political alliances between the North and South—such as the partnerships that birthed Nigeria’s independence and the transition into the Second Republic—he emphasized that the NDC’s agreement reflects a deep commitment to fairness and the federal character principle.
Beyond his acceptance of the zoning structure, the former governor condemned the current state of the nation, citing severe economic hardship, collapsing infrastructure, and widespread insecurity under the current administration.
