ADC Begins Presidential Primary As Atiku and Amaechi Vote

ABUJA, Nigeria: The African Democratic Congress commenced its nationwide presidential primary election on Monday, May 25, 2026, with candidates voting across various states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okay News reports that Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, stated that he cast his ballot at the Ajiya Ward Polling Unit in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State.

“I joined other prospective voters of the African Democratic Congress in our party’s presidential primaries in casting my vote at the Ajiya Ward Polling Unit in Jimeta Yola, Adamawa State. This is democracy at work. The election taking place simultaneously in 8,809 Wards in Nigeria is a major step in our quest to recover our beloved country and set it on the path of prosperity,” Abubakar said.

Nigeria’s former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, participated in the exercise at Ubima within Rivers State, where he addressed voters at his polling unit.

“Vote for merit, not ethnicity or religion,” Amaechi said.

Another presidential aspirant, Hayatu-Deen, participated in the voting exercise from Borno State and called on party members to support his platform.

“I am live in Borno for the ADC Presidential Primaries. To all our members; my supporters – come out and vote for a new direction. Vote MHD for ADC,” Hayatu-Deen said.

The political party adopted the direct primary method across 8,809 wards in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory after the three presidential aspirants declined requests to step down for a consensus candidate.
