ADC Names Amaechi as Atiku’s Running Mate for 2027

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

ABUJA, Nigeria — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2027 general election.

The party said the decision followed consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, and stakeholders across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. Amaechi emerged as the choice after finishing as runner-up in the ADC presidential primary, where he reportedly secured broad support from party members nationwide.

Okay News reports that the ADC described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a partnership between two experienced political figures capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic, security, and governance challenges.

According to the party, Amaechi’s political career spans several key positions, including Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation. The ADC said his experience across both the legislative and executive arms of government would strengthen the party’s campaign and governance agenda.

The party also noted that Amaechi’s influence in the South-South region and his record in public service would complement Atiku’s candidacy and help build support across different parts of the country.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ticket represents a national coalition focused on economic recovery, job creation, security, and national unity ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
