ABUJA, Nigeria — Senator Adams Oshiomhole has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi will not repeat his previous electoral performance.
Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State and current senator representing Edo North, argued that leadership records at the state level remain important in assessing presidential aspirants. He claimed that Edo State was safer during his administration than Anambra State was under Obi’s tenure as governor.
Okay News reports that the former All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman also referenced the activities of the Bakassi Boys, a vigilante group that operated in parts of southeastern Nigeria, saying Obi was unable to effectively control the security challenges associated with the group during his time in office.
“When I was governor, my state was safer than Anambra under Obi. If Obi couldn’t fix Anambra State, he couldn’t control the Bakassi Boys, who got out of control,” Oshiomhole said.
The lawmaker further predicted that President Tinubu would win re-election comfortably in 2027, maintaining that Obi would attract fewer votes than he did in previous presidential contests.
“Tinubu will win in 2027 hands down, and this boy will not get the votes he got before,” he added.
Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, recently emerged as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election and is expected to challenge President Tinubu and other opposition candidates in the race for Nigeria’s highest office.
