Amorim Hails United’s ‘Magical’ Comeback in Manchester Derby Victory

By Yusuf Abubakar

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim lauded his team’s determination and fighting spirit following their dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Manchester City in Sunday’s Premier League derby at the Etihad Stadium.

United fell behind early in the game when Joško Gvardiol headed City into the lead.

However, the Red Devils mounted a late resurgence, with Amad Diallo winning a penalty that Bruno Fernandes converted, before Diallo himself netted the decisive goal in added time.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Amorim expressed his delight with the result and the performance.

“It was incredible. I think we deserved it. It was a very tough match but we believed until the end. We managed to score; we needed that win. It was important for us and for our fans,” Amorim said.

Reflecting on his side’s mentality, Amorim highlighted the team’s consistency and improvement since their previous performances.

“We were in the game for 90 minutes and that is very good. We talk about the Arsenal game; we played well in the first half but they did not believe that we could win. Today was so much more different,” he added.

Amorim also referred to the club’s tradition of late heroics, often described as “Fergie time,” in honor of legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

“I also believe. Then we have Fergie time and we put the things together and something magical happened. It was a good day for us.”
