Bauchi Governor Relaxes Curfew in Katagum LGA Amid Gradual Return to Normalcy

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has announced a relaxation of the 24-hour curfew previously imposed on Katagum Local Government Area.

The curfew, now adjusted to 12 hours, will be in effect from 6 pm to 6 am daily.

The decision to ease the curfew was made following a comprehensive review involving security agencies, which observed a gradual return to normalcy in the region.

The relaxation of the curfew was officially communicated to the public in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, on Tuesday.

Governor Mohammed emphasized the state’s dedication to restoring stability while also considering the well-being and safety of its residents.

He urged the people of Katagum to adhere to the new curfew hours and cooperate with efforts to maintain security and order in their community.

The 24-hour curfew was originally imposed on Monday after escalating unrest in Azare, the headquarters of Katagum.

The crisis saw hoodlums exploit a protest, leading to vandalism of the Government House Annex, the residence of a former deputy governor, and the looting of shops and properties.
