Bayer Leverkusen Makes History with Unbeaten Season

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Bayer Leverkusen has made history by becoming the first team in Bundesliga history to go an entire season unbeaten, following a 2-1 home win against Augsburg on Saturday. This impressive achievement extends their undefeated streak in all competitions to 51 games.

Victor Boniface and Robert Andrich scored the crucial goals that secured Leverkusen’s victory and cemented their position as champions. Coach Xabi Alonso expressed his pride and satisfaction with the team’s achievement, stating, “Totally deserved. It was our goal after winning the title against Bremen. Very proud of the team – very satisfied and very happy.”

This historic feat comes ahead of a significant week for Leverkusen, as they prepare to face Atalanta in the Europa League final and contest the German Cup final.

In other Bundesliga matches, Cologne suffered relegation after a 4-1 loss at Heidenheim, while Union Berlin scored a stoppage-time winner to beat Freiburg 2-1 and avoid relegation. Bochum will face a two-legged relegation play-off against second-division Fortuna Duesseldorf after losing 4-1 at Werder Bremen.

Stuttgart leapfrogged Bayern Munich into second spot with a convincing 4-0 win over Borussia Moenchengladbach, while Borussia Dortmund veteran Marco Reus ended his time at the club in style with a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over Darmstadt.
