The Benue State Government has expressed its support for the Federal Government’s proposed tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly, despite the controversy surrounding the legislation.
Speaking during an interview with journalists on Monday in Makurdi, the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Michael Oglegba, highlighted the importance of the reforms in boosting revenue generation through taxation.
Oglegba said, “The tax reform bill is largely a good bill. We support the effort of the Federal Government to grow tax revenues.”
The proposed tax reforms aim to streamline the tax system, making it more efficient and conducive for businesses while addressing Nigeria’s fiscal challenges.
However, the bills have faced resistance from several northern states and senators, who have raised concerns about their potential implications for resource distribution and economic impact on the regions.
The tax reform bills remain under intense debate in the National Assembly, with lawmakers and stakeholders continuing to deliberate on their potential economic and social impacts.
