OGBOMOSO, Nigeria – Burial arrangements for Adesiyan Adegboye, a 49-year-old teacher killed during a coordinated attack on three schools in Oyo State, began on Friday, May 22, 2026.
Okay News reports that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, confirmed one person was killed when armed bandits invaded the schools at 9:30 a.m. WAT last Friday.
The funeral service commenced at Ayegun Baptist Church in Ogbomoso, with the burial scheduled later on Friday at the residence of the deceased in the Owolake area.
The attackers invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele. The state governor stated that 18 pupils and seven teachers were taken from First Baptist Primary and Nursery School, while seven students were abducted from Community Secondary School.
Nigeria‘s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, visited the affected area on Saturday and directed the deployment of additional detectives from the Force Headquarters in Abuja to coordinate rescue operations for the kidnapped teachers and pupils.
The incident caused parents in surrounding communities in the Oriire Local Government Area to withdraw their children from schools, while the management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology dismissed rumors that the attackers had breached its campus.
