Oyo Private School Owners Demand Security Following Abductions

IBADAN, Nigeria – The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools called for an increased security presence around educational facilities on Tuesday following the abduction of teachers and students in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Okay News reports that attackers abducted the victims during coordinated raids on Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, within the Oriire Local Government Area on Friday at 9:30 a.m. WAT.

Speaking on behalf of proprietors across five local government areas, District Secretary Olawale Ojewumi, Public Relations Officer Tope Olaniyan, and District Chairperson Bosede Ajala said the wave of attacks on schools has created fear among parents, teachers, and school owners.

Addressing the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Oyo State Government, the association said, “NAPPS wants to use this period to urge the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government and security agencies to urgently strengthen security architecture around educational institutions, especially those located in rural and vulnerable communities.”

The association said, “We also call for the deployment of modern surveillance technology, improved intelligence gathering and rapid response mechanisms to prevent future attacks and ensure the swift rescue of abducted victims.”

The organisation appealed to religious leaders and stakeholders to unite in advocacy for community protection. The association said, “This is not the burden of one school alone. An attack on one school is an attack on all schools.”
