IBADAN, Nigeria — Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde signed into law Executive Order 001 of 2026 on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, to regulate security associations and allied services across the state.
Okay News reports that Governor Makinde mandated that all groups and organizations engaged in security-related activities operate within a documented legal framework to ensure public order.
Governor Makinde stated the policy was introduced to address security challenges and ensure proper coordination of community-based security groups. The order requires all organizations with more than five members offering security services to register with the Office of the Special Adviser on Security.
Oyo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Abiodun Aikomo noted that existing groups must comply with registration and documentation requirements within 72 hours. Failure to adhere to these regulations will result in legal penalties.
The Office of the Special Adviser on Security, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have received directives to enforce compliance with the order. Governor Makinde also noted that his administration is working with security agencies to secure the release of students and teachers recently abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.
