RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – In a major move to ensure long-term stability ahead of the 2026 World Cup, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has officially announced a four-year contract extension for head coach Carlo Ancelotti, keeping him at the helm of the Seleção until the 2030 World Cup.
Okay News reports that the legendary Italian tactician, who took over in May 2025, signed the extension on Thursday, May 14, 2026. The deal comes as a significant vote of confidence just days before Ancelotti is scheduled to announce his final squad for the upcoming World Cup in North America.
“I arrived in Brazil a year ago. From the very first minute, I understood what football means to this nation,” Ancelotti said in an official statement released by the CBF. “For a year now, we have been working to bring the Brazilian national team back to the top of the world. But the CBF and I want more. More victories, more time, and more hard work. We are very happy to announce that we will continue together for four more years.”
A Historic Day for Brazilian Football
CBF President Samir Xaud, who led the negotiations, hailed the agreement as a cornerstone of the federation’s modern era. “Today is a historic day for the CBF and for Brazilian football,” Xaud declared. “The renewal of Carlo Ancelotti represents another firm step in our commitment to providing the five-time world champion Seleção with a structure that is increasingly strong, modern, and competitive.”
Restoring Global Dominance
Since his appointment, the 66-year-old former Real Madrid boss has managed 10 fixtures, recording five victories, two draws, and three defeats. Despite a period defined by injuries and tactical restructuring, the CBF believes Ancelotti’s elite experience is the key to ending Brazil’s 24-year World Cup drought.
Ancelotti is expected to unveil his World Cup squad on Monday, May 18. Brazil will be based in New Jersey for the tournament, where they are set to face Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti in Group C. The new deal ensures that regardless of the outcome this summer, Ancelotti will lead the project into the World Cup’s centennial celebration in 2030.
