The Code of Conduct Tribunal Chairman, Umar Danladi has adjourned the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to May 9th, 2016.

Saraki’s trial is bordering on 16 count charge of false asset declaration before Justice Danladi led tribunal.

After the filing of fresh count charges to Saraki’s case by the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi jacobs, the Defence counsel, Kanu Agabi applied for 3weeks adjournment to scrutinise documents justifying the 3 new charges

The defence cited Section 36b of the 1999 constitution that supports an application of this nature. “Every person charged with criminal offense shall be given adequate time to prepare for his defense”.

Reacting to the defence counsel’s argument, Rotimi said: “I submit that the adjournment of 3weeks is against the application of criminal justice….” More so, he has exhausted his number of adjournment, which cannot be more than 7days. The application is against section 396 sub 5, so if his Lordship should adjourn, it shouldn’t be more than 7 days,” Rotimi argued regarding defence counsel’s plea for 3 weeks adjournment.
