The government of Borno State has given N10 million and food items to the 276 parents of the abducted Chibok girls in observance of the eleventh anniversary of their disappearance, okaynews.com reports.
The gathering, which took place on Monday, brought together government representatives, local leaders, and grieving parents in the state’s Chibok local government area, according to a statement released by the state ministry of information and internal security on Tuesday.
Note that Boko Haram insurgent kidnapped 276 schoolgirls from Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok in 2014.
According to the statement, 189 of the 276 schoolgirls who were kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok have been freed.
“Efforts remain ongoing to locate and safely return the remaining girls. Of the rescued, 18 are currently under the care of the Borno State Government, where they are undergoing psychosocial support, vocational training, and academic tutorials in preparation to resit their WAEC examinations,” It said
It added, “Representing the State Government at this year’s anniversary was a delegation led by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, who delivered a heartfelt message on behalf of His Excellency, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Executive Governor of Borno State.
“In addition to words of comfort and reassurance, the government provided the 276 parents of the abducted girls with ₦10 million in cash support and food items — a powerful gesture of solidarity and compassion.”
Gambo reaffirmed that the government is committed to empowering and educating the rescued girls in order to ensure their full reintegration into society after rehabilitation.
“We will continue to walk with you, support you, and never give up until every missing girl is found. The rescued girls are not just being rehabilitated, they are being given a new chance at life.” It quoted the Commissioner
In separate statements, Pogu Lawan, a member of the Borno State House of Assembly who represents the region, and Mustapha Modu, the Executive Chairman of Chibok, thanked the Borno state government for its unwavering support of Chibok over the years.
They demanded constant work until all the girls were returned and all the families were at peace.
