Diego Godin reveals why he turned down Manchester United move

By Promise Amadi

Atletico Madrid defender, Diego Godin, has revealed he turned down a deadline-day move to Manchester United for “personal reasons”.

Godin was the subject of a bid from the Red Devils as the club looked to strengthen their defence.

United were willing to pay the 32-year-old’s €25million buyout clause, but the Uruguay international turned down their advances.

There were reports that Godin was set for a new bumper deal at the club, but the defender quashed those rumours and finally explained why he rejected United.

“I have not renewed. I have had offers, although I have decided to stay for personal reasons and I am only thinking about the final.

“But I have not extended my contract.

“I saw that news came out but I do not know where it came from,” Godin said ahead of Atletico Madrid’s Super Cup clash against rivals Real Madrid.
