Emir Sanusi Defies Police Ban, Holds Sallah Durbar in Kano

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Despite the Kano Police Command’s announcement banning Sallah durbar, the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has gone ahead with the traditional celebration. The Emir led the Eid prayer and sermon at the Kofar Mata Jumu’at mosque, which was attended by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other cabinet members.

The durbar procession, which was initially banned by the police, took place with the Emir riding a horse and receiving greetings and homage from individuals and groups along the way. The event was secured by the Army, Police, Civil Defence, and other security agencies.

This development comes after Governor Yusuf expressed dissatisfaction with the police ban, stating that he was not consulted as the Chief Security Officer of the State. Meanwhile, the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, observed his Eid prayer at the Nassarawa mini palace and cancelled durbar activities during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
