Eric Bailly Could Be Hit with an Extended Ban After Red Card

By Farouk Mohammed

Eric Bailly could be hit with an extended ban after being sent off in Manchester United’s Europa League semi-final against Celta Vigo.

The 23-year-old has impressed in his first season at Old Trafford but lost his composure towards the end of Thursday’s 1-1 draw.

Bailly was handed a straight red card for pushing John Guidetti in the face, with Celta defender Facundo Roncaglia following him down the tunnel after raising his hand to the Ivorian in retaliation.

Both players are suspended for at least one European club competition match, meaning United centre-back Bailly will miss the Europa League final against Ajax on May 24.

The duo could also have their bans extended when their cases are heard by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on July 20.

In March, Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli had the length of his suspension increased to three European club matches for his reckless tackle on Gent’s Brecht Dejaegere in the Europa League.

The England international will miss the first three games of next season’s Champions League campaign as a result.

Meanwhile, United were charged by UEFA for kicking off late against Celta Vigo.
