Findi George Unveiled as New Super Eagles Coach

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has officially unveiled Finidi George as the new head coach of the Nigerian men’s national team, the Super Eagles. The unveiling ceremony took place at the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Monday morning, attended by leaders of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

Minister Enoh expressed his pride in having a Nigerian coach at the helm of the national team, saying, “Any country I find an indigenous coach sitting on the bench, I always feel very proud, and I am glad that we have an opportunity to have a Nigerian coach, Finidi George, as our football men’s national team coach.”

Finidi George, a former Super Eagles forward and Real Betis winger, was appointed permanently following the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro. George previously served as an assistant coach to Peseiro at the last African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where the team finished second.

George took charge of the team on an interim basis for the recent doubleheader international friendly against Ghana and Mali, and his appointment was announced a few weeks ago.

His first assignment as the substantive Head Coach will be the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in June.
