I’m Ready to Sacrifice For Super Eagles to Progress – Mikel Obi

By Farouk Mohammed

Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has stated that he is willing to sacrifice his role in the team so they could win their remaining games at the Russia 2018 World Cup.

The former Chelsea star was criticized for his display in the 2-0 loss to Croatia last Saturday, when he was the most advanced midfielder in Gernot Rohr’s formation.

Fans have called for head coach Gernot Rohr to play the midfielder in a withdrawn role in subsequent games .

Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, Mikel said: “I am the captain of this team. If I have to sacrifice for this team to progress, I will.

“If I have to sacrifice a position, go play wherever, I will do that for this team to win games.”

“We are very hopeful and confident because everything is still in our own hands. It just depends on how much we want it.

“The result against Croatia was disappointing but we can fix it,” he added.
