Kaduna Governor Praises Tinubu’s Agricultural Drive for Northern Poverty Reduction

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its exceptional commitment to agricultural development, describing it as unparalleled in Nigeria’s history.

Speaking at the distribution of presidential palliative relief materials held at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hall, Kaduna, on Sunday, Governor Sani emphasized the significant impact of the president’s agricultural policies in reducing poverty across Northern Nigeria.

He revealed that poverty rates in the North-West had been alarmingly high, between 65% and 70%, but the interventions by the Tinubu administration over the past two years have brought substantial improvements. “We are not just talking about palliatives, we are talking about deep, structural support,” Sani said, highlighting fertilizer distribution, funding for smallholder farmers, and billions of naira in financial aid extended regardless of political affiliations.

“No president has supported agriculture development like President Tinubu,” he added, noting that these efforts have addressed critical infrastructure deficits, created jobs, and reduced poverty. The governor also stressed the necessity of local government autonomy to sustain these achievements, noting the presence of all 23 local government chairmen at the event as key drivers of the initiative.

Governor Sani underscored agriculture’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s economy, contributing about 43% to GDP and employing 60% of the workforce. “In Kaduna State, we are fighting poverty through agriculture. We want to remain the agricultural hub of Nigeria,” he declared.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, praised the president’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, lauding his courage to implement tough reforms that have improved Nigeria’s global ratings and economic direction.

The president’s political adviser, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, announced the distribution of over 12,367 bags of rice in Kaduna as part of a nationwide relief effort, urging integrity in the process and wise use of the support by beneficiaries.

This comprehensive agricultural push aligns with Kaduna’s broader development strategy, including the launch of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ), backed by significant investments to boost agri-business and food security in the state and beyond.
