Katsina Bans Fuel Sales in Jerrycans, Motorcycles in Two LGAs Amid Anti-Banditry Crackdown

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

KATSINA, Nigeria — The Katsina State Government has announced a series of new security measures aimed at curbing banditry and disrupting criminal operations across parts of the state.

The directives, approved by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, include an immediate ban on the sale, purchase, transportation and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans throughout the state. Authorities said the move is intended to restrict access to fuel supplies often used by criminal groups operating in remote areas.

Okay News reports that the government also ordered the immediate closure of all Point of Sale (POS) businesses and commercial phone charging points in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas. In addition, the use of motorcycles has been completely prohibited in both councils as part of efforts to limit the mobility of bandits and their collaborators.

Residents of the affected areas have been directed to comply fully with the new measures and assist security agencies by providing credible intelligence that could aid ongoing operations against criminal elements. The government stressed that community cooperation remains critical to restoring peace and security.

Authorities warned that the directives would be strictly enforced, adding that individuals found violating any of the restrictions would face legal sanctions. The latest measures form part of the state’s broader strategy to combat insecurity and strengthen ongoing security operations across Katsina.
