ABUJA, Nigeria: The senator representing Nigeria’s Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, stated on Monday, June 15, 2026, that the signatures of at least three lawmakers were forged on a document recommending the six-month suspension of Kogi Central senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Okay News reports that Oshiomhole made the allegation during an interview on Africa Independent Television while responding to comments by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele.
The former Edo State governor stated that several lawmakers privately informed him they did not endorse the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions despite their names appearing on the final document.
Oshiomhole identified the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, as one of the lawmakers who raised concerns about the report.
“The committee does a hearing; members are expected to sign the report to endorse it. If you don’t agree, you can abstain. But some said they didn’t sign, yet their names were published,” Oshiomhole said.
“People like Senator Ireti Kingibe. She told me, ‘But I didn’t sign that report. But my name was published’,” Oshiomhole said.
“So, where many don’t accept the content, they could abstain from signing it because to sign is to endorse. One, two or three senators said, ‘We didn’t sign, but our names were there,'” Oshiomhole said.
“But how? Some say maybe they attached an attendance register, which is not the appropriate thing. But that’s not my problem. If Opeyemi said so, I think you should take it seriously,” Oshiomhole said.
The Nigerian Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan in March 2025 after finding her guilty of alleged gross misconduct following a public dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The suspension involved the withdrawal of her salary and allowances, the closure of her office inside the National Assembly, and a ban on accessing legislative premises.
Neither the committee nor the Senate leadership has issued an official response to the allegations.
Efforts to reach Eseme Eyiboh, the media aide to Akpabio, were unsuccessful as messages and calls to his known contacts were not returned as of 8:14 AM WAT on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
