LAGOS, Nigeria: A coalition of civil society organisations, trade unions, youth groups, community associations, social movements, and faith-based groups staged a protest in Lagos on Friday, June 12, 2026, over worsening insecurity and the rising cost of living in the country.
Okay News reports that the demonstrators converged at Ikeja Under Bridge, calling on the Federal Government to address the deteriorating living conditions of millions of Nigerians.
The coalition organized the demonstration as a mass action against escalating economic hardship and policies affecting citizens. Participants expressed concerns over the increasing pressure of inflation on households and businesses.
Protesters carried placards bearing different inscriptions, including: “End all anti-people policies now,” “End hunger,” “Free all captives now,” “Decent minimum wage,” “No democracy without security,” “For a living wage and mass job creation, and “Tinubu has failed Nigeria.”
The demonstrators urged authorities at all levels to prioritize citizens’ welfare and security while implementing policies aimed at easing economic pressure and improving living standards.
