Lagos Island East LCDA Chairman Denies Arrest, Clarifies ICPC Inquiry Was a Questioning

Muibi Folawiyo, Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has publicly refuted claims that he was arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations of misappropriating public funds.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Olushoga Olushola, Folawiyo confirmed that he was invited by the ICPC for questioning but was never taken into custody. The inquiry stemmed from a petition filed by individuals Folawiyo described as “detractors and enemies of progress,” who he believes aim to tarnish his reputation and administration ahead of the upcoming Lagos State local government elections.

“As a responsible and law-abiding citizen, Hon. Folawiyo honoured the invitation and cooperated fully with the Commission, confident that the truth will always prevail,” the statement said. Following the questioning, Folawiyo has resumed his official duties at the LCDA.

The Chairman appealed to the public, particularly his constituents and stakeholders in Lagos Island East LCDA, to disregard what he termed “misleading or sensational narratives being circulated online.” He urged everyone to stay focused on the collective goal of progress and a successful election.

Folawiyo also expressed gratitude for the “overwhelming support, prayers and solidarity” he has received and reaffirmed his commitment to service and integrity.
