Lagos Leads as NIN Registrations Top 117 Million

As of February 28, 2025, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has recorded a total of 117 million National Identity Number (NIN) registrations. Within this figure, the gender distribution reveals that 66,281,803 individuals, representing 56.5% of the total, are male, while 51,079,521 individuals, or 43.5%, are female, okaynews.com reports.

Regional data indicates significant variations in enrollment numbers across the country. Lagos State leads with the highest cumulative enrollment, exceeding 12.6 million registrants. Kano State follows with 10.2 million registrants. Other states with high registration numbers include Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, Katsina, The Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Rivers, Delta and Bauchi. Conversely, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Ekiti states have recorded the lowest enrollment figures.

Specifically, Bayelsa recorded 758,111 registrations, Ebonyi 990,775, and Ekiti 1,143,102. Further more, other states with lower NIN registration numbers include; Cross River, Taraba, Yobe, Kogi, Enugu, Kwara and Imo.
The NIMC data highlights the ongoing efforts to register the Nigerian population, and the varying levels of participation across different regions.”
