The Lagos State Government in Nigeria has announced a comprehensive traffic management plan ahead of the Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” Cycling Race, which is scheduled to hold on Sunday, 11 January 2026, from 5:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Nigeria’s Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, detailed the traffic arrangements in a statement released on Saturday in Lagos, the country’s most populous city and economic hub.
According to Osiyemi, the 170-kilometre event, organised by the Dynastar Sport and Education Foundation, will feature two race routes designed to accommodate cyclists of different skill levels.
“The 70-kilometre Route starts at Eko Atlantic, traverses Ahmadu Bello Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road, Ogombo Road, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway, and Sangotedo before returning to Eko Atlantic,” he explained.
He added, “The 170-kilometre Route follows the same initial path before continuing to Epe T-Junction, Ita Marun Junction, Poka-Araga Road, Oke Osho Junction, Temu Road, Epe T-Junction, and back to Eko Atlantic, the finishing point.”
For traffic management, all roads, junctions, and intersections along the race courses will be monitored and regulated by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) alongside other security agencies to restrict unauthorised vehicular access.
“Motorists should expect partial road closures and are advised to exercise patience, cooperate with traffic officials, and follow all instructions to ensure safety for both participants and road users during the event,” Osiyemi emphasised.
Okay News reports that the Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” is a major sporting initiative aimed at positioning Lagos as a leading destination for sports tourism, healthy living, and sustainable mobility. The state government highlighted that the event will also showcase the city’s modern infrastructure, coastal scenery, and vibrant cultural heritage.
