Lagos to Host Africa’s Premier Theatre Festival in November 2025

By Ogungbayi Feyisola Faesol

Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial and cultural capital, is set to host the 2025 edition of the Lagos International Theatre Festival (LITF), a week-long celebration of performance, creativity, and cultural exchange. Running from 10–16 November, the festival will transform the city into a global stage, welcoming theatre companies from Nigeria, South Africa, and the United States.

Recognised as Africa’s leading international theatre event, LITF 2025 will feature 20 productions across five stages, alongside masterclasses, networking events, and cultural showcases. Organisers say the festival will offer “a city alive with art,” including pop-up performances, live music, creative markets, and food stalls, making it one of the continent’s most anticipated cultural experiences.

The programme kicks off on Monday, 10 November, with “Theatre Meets Food” at Kaly Restaurant—a curated evening of gourmet dining, cocktails, and live performances. On Wednesday, 12 November, the U.S. Embassy will host “LITF x U.S. Embassy Night” at CG Residence, featuring short performances and a diplomatic cocktail reception.

Thursday, 13 November, brings “Conversations & Culture” at Terra Kulture, with masterclasses led by renowned theatre figures including Aubrey Sekhabi of the South African State Theatre, Valerie Green of Dance Entropy Inc., Professors Segun Ojewuyi and Jaemin Park of Southern Illinois University, and Bolanle Austen-Peters, Founder of LITF and Terra Kulture. That evening, the British Consulate will host “Director’s Night,” celebrating artistic innovation and cross-cultural collaboration.

The Opening Night Gala will be held on Friday, 14 November at the MUSON Centre, featuring performances by BAP Productions, award presentations, and appearances by leading figures in the arts. The festival concludes with two full days of theatre, workshops, and a grand finale celebration on 15–16 November.

Bolanle Austen-Peters described LITF as “a platform for creative exchange and cultural diplomacy,” adding that the festival anchors Lagos as a global cultural hub. Festival Director Vanessa Jev echoed this, saying, “LITF 2025 is where creativity, culture and community collide—a space where Lagos meets the world.”
