Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has explained why his side were defeated 2-1 by Chelsea in the Carabao Cup third round encounter at Anfield.

Liverpool striker, Daniel Sturridge opened scoring for the hosts in the 58 minute before Chelsea stars, Emerson Palmieri and Eden Hazard scored two goals in the 79 and 85 minutes to earn a place in the fourth round for the Blues.

Klopp, however, said that the Reds lost because his players didn’t have enough time to equalize Hazard’s late goal, adding that his side didn’t also defend well.

“Second half, we started well and scored the goal,” Klopp was quoted by Football London as saying at post-match.

“We could have scored before. We had four or five players on the pitch with their first start of the season.

“They scored a goal after a free-kick. At 1-1 they had the momentum. We didn’t have time to hit back.”

He added, “We could have defended better. I’ll have to see it again. It’s not easy to defend.

“I don’t think it’s a foul as he plays the ball. It was a close decision. They had two players clearly offside and they blocked my players. They had a big impact on the situation. Barkley who made the header was also offside as well.”
