Man City Will Improve Next Year – Guardiola

By Gbolahan Adeyemi

Goals from David Silva and Gabriel Jesus gave the hosts the win , though Silva’s opening goal was controversial, with Raheem Sterling in an offside position and thought to be interfering with play.

Riyad Mahrez also had a two-touch penalty disallowed late on, but Guardiola says the victory was “so important” as they strengthen their Champions League qualification bid and move up to third in the Premier League.

Guardiola told Sky Sports : “We are going to improve next season. We arrived four or five times at the byline and didn’t pick the right pass.

“Today was so important, it’s not easy to win games in a row. Now we rest, because we have not too much time, and Thursday we try again.

“We have two games left. In terms of importance it was so, so important, against the last champions.

“When you play against them you understand why they were champions.

“In the second half we didn’t know whether to attack or defend. Of course, in extra-time with 10 minutes, anything can happen.”

Asked about Silva’s equaliser, which Leicester felt aggrieved about, Guardiola said: “Goal. Because he doesn’t stop the position for the goalkeeper.”

And then when asked about Robert Madley’s decision to disallow Riyad Mahrez’s penalty for touching the ball twice after slipping, Guardiola referenced Nicolas Otamendi’s slip for Shinji Okazaki’s first-half goal.
“Well done [to Madley]. Maybe it’s the first or second time in my life I’ve seen that. Otamendi slipped in the first goal, Mahrez with the penalty, so maybe we have to look at our boots!”
