MANCHESTER, England — Manchester United have agreed a £35 million (€40.5 million) deal with Serie A side Atalanta to sign Brazilian central midfielder Éderson, marking the first major roster move of the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old combatant has agreed to a four-year contract at Old Trafford, with a club option to extend his stay for an additional 12 months through 2031.
Okay News reports that the transfer structure includes an additional £3.9 million (€4.5 million) in performance-related add-ons. Éderson will travel to Manchester to undergo his routine medical examinations ahead of a formal unveiling in early July, ensuring he integrates fully before the squad begins its pre-season training tour.
The signing is a significant milestone for newly appointed permanent head coach Michael Carrick, who took the reins full-time last month following a successful interim spell initiated by Rúben Amorim’s departure in January. Driven by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s revamped analytical hierarchy—spearheaded by former Mercedes Formula 1 engineer Michael Sansoni and director of football Jason Wilcox—United targeted Éderson as a vital tactical replacement for veteran midfielder Casemiro, whose contract expires at the end of June.
Éderson arrives in England boasting a reputation for immense durability and tactical flexibility, having registered 16 goals in 180 appearances for Atalanta. While the three-cap international narrowly missed out on Carlo Ancelotti’s final 23-man Brazil roster for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup despite making the 55-man provisional list, his arrival signals an aggressive midfield overhaul at Old Trafford. Club sources indicate that Carrick intends to sign up to two more central midfielders this summer, with West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson currently high on the Red Devils’ recruitment radar.
