Messi Set New UEFA Champions League Hat-Trick Record

By Promise Amadi

Barcelona ace, Lionel Messi has overtaken former Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo as the player with the highest number of hat-tricks in the UEFA Champions League.

Messi broke the record last night in Barcelona’s 4-0 win against PSV Eindhoven.

Messi inspired the Catalans to an easy win against the Dutch giants at the Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants who also have Tottenham and Inter Milan in the same group, are now heavy favorites to progress to the last-16.

The 31-year-old opened the scoring against PSV and then added another two to complete his hat-trick after Ousmane Dembele had doubled Barcelona’s lead.

It was his eight hat-trick in the Champions League. It means he now holds the record outright for most hat-tricks in the competition, one more than arch-rival Ronaldo.
