‘Minor Derailment’ Forces Temporary Suspension of Warri-Itakpe Train Service

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has temporarily suspended operations on the Warri-Itakpe train route following a minor derailment at Okpara station, located in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident occurred around 10 pm on Sunday, leaving passengers stranded overnight.

In a statement issued on Monday, Yakub Mahmood, NRC’s Deputy Director of Public Relations, assured the public that engineers had been mobilized to the site to restore the track and that operations would resume by Monday afternoon.

“The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) hereby informs the general public, especially our valued passengers that ply the Warri-Itakpe route, that following the minor derailment yesterday at the Okpara station, the service will resume shortly as our team of engineers are at the site of the accident to ensure the track is restored anytime soon,” the statement read.

The NRC confirmed that the Itakpe-Warri (Ujevwu) trains will resume as scheduled on Monday afternoon.
