Nasarawa NLC, TUC Call Off Strike Following Agreement on Minimum Wage Implementation

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Nasarawa State have officially called off their indefinite strike following an agreement with the state government on the implementation of the new minimum wage.

At a press conference in Lafia on Monday, Ismaila Okoh, the NLC chairman in Nasarawa, announced that the decision to end the strike was reached after extensive negotiations and interventions by key stakeholders.

The industrial action, which began in protest over the non-implementation of the new wage structure, ended after the state government agreed to implement the adjustments for workers on various salary grades.

“A template has been finalised for the consequential adjustments of the minimum wage for workers on Grade Levels 7 to 16,” Okoh said.

Speaking alongside Okoh, Mohammed Doma, TUC chairman in the state, confirmed that the state government committed to paying the new minimum wage and its corresponding adjustments effective December 1, 2024.

“The payment of the new minimum wage, including the agreed adjustments, will be calculated and disbursed from December 1,” Doma added.

The NLC had earlier set December 1 as the deadline for all state governments to implement the new ₦70,000 minimum wage, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024.
