NCC Issues Warning Over Fraudulent LinkedIn Account Impersonating Danbatta

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a warning to the public about a fraudulent LinkedIn account impersonating the person and office of the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta.

According to the NCC in a statement signed by Reuben Muoka, its Director, Public Affairs, the fake account was created by unscrupulous and criminal elements with the intention of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public and social media users.

The account falsely claims to belong to the EVC of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta.

To clarify any confusion, the NCC emphatically stated that Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta has no LinkedIn account. Any account on social media or other platforms purporting to be that of the NCC’s EVC is fake and should be disregarded.

The NCC is taking the matter seriously and is collaborating with appropriate security agencies to investigate the source of this fraudulent activity and prevent further harm.

The commission warned members of the public and stakeholders to exercise caution and vigilance while using social media platforms and the cyberspace.

Fraudulent individuals and groups often exploit these platforms to defraud unsuspecting users.

The NCC urged everyone to rely on the official channels for credible updates and announcements.

The commission maintains an official website (www.ncc.gov.ng) and verified social media handles where all information about their activities, programs, and reports can be accessed and verified.
