Nigerian actor and content creator Odira Nwobu has died in South Africa, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) confirmed on Monday.

AGN President Emeka Rollas told journalists that the guild had received official notification of the actor’s passing. “It is true that Odira Nwobu is dead. He died in South Africa,” Rollas said.

Okay News reports that Nwobu had travelled to South Africa for a performance alongside popular comedian Chibuike Gabriel, widely known as Untouchable.

According to multiple accounts from colleagues, he returned to his hotel early Sunday morning after a night out, where he reportedly suffered a hypertensive episode linked to high blood pressure.

Fellow actor Ajemba Stanley Chibueze, known as Stanley Ontop, explained that Nwobu showed sudden signs of distress shortly after arriving at his hotel and was unable to recover. “He passed away shortly after,” he said.

A video circulated online shows Nwobu dancing and celebrating in a nightclub hours before the incident.

Fans have expressed shock on social media, noting that the actor displayed no visible signs of discomfort prior to his sudden death.

Nwobu’s passing comes just months after he survived a serious car accident earlier in 2025.
