Nigerian Army Denies Arresting ‘General’ for Criticizing Senate President Akpabio

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigerian Army has disowned Haruna Garba Gololo, popularly known as Garus Gololo, following media reports labeling him a retired military general after his recent arrest in Abuja.

Gololo was reportedly detained by security operatives after publicly criticizing Senate President Godswill Akpabio regarding comments tied to the 2027 general elections.

Okay News reports that the Army Headquarters issued an official disclaimer on Tuesday, categorically denying that Gololo ever served as a commissioned officer or attained the rank of a General in the armed forces.

The military high command slammed the publication for spreading false and misleading attributions, warning that such misrepresentations severely undermine public trust and institutional integrity.

The statement urged media organizations to practice strict due diligence and verify profiles before publishing reports concerning national security institutions, while advising the general public to completely disregard the political commentator’s military claims.
