ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Government has strongly condemned the recent mass abductions of students and teachers in Oyo and Borno states, describing the coordinated attacks on educational institutions as entirely unacceptable.
The denunciation follows the simultaneous May 15 raids where heavily armed gunmen abducted 39 students and seven teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, while Boko Haram insurgents kidnapped 42 students in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Okay News reports that the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, issued an official press statement on Wednesday, declaring that any assault on learners is a direct hit on the nation’s future stability.
“No child should face fear or violence in pursuit of education. Government remains committed to securing schools and protecting learners nationwide,” Alausa stated, adding that the administration is working tirelessly alongside intelligence and security agencies to guarantee the victims’ safe return.
The minister reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is aggressively expanding defensive capabilities through the National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools. This includes deployment of advanced surveillance frameworks, localized emergency response systems, and tighter security around vulnerable sub-national learning centers.
While urging the public to stay calm and refrain from spreading unverified tracking details that could compromise ongoing military rescue missions, the Ministry expressed its profound solidarity with the traumatized families and the affected state governments.
