By Farouk Mohammed

The Nigerian senior national female basketball team, D’Tigresses, on Saturday beat host Mali 48-47 to qualify for the final of the 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

The win also guaranteed the team a place in the 2018 FIBA World Cup billed to hold in Spain.

The first quarter of the game ended 10-7 to the Nigerians, a lead that was extended in the second quarter with a 13-5 lead to end the first half of the game at 23-12.

The Malians came back stronger in the third quarter winning it 17-16 before a blistering fourth quarter gave them an 18-9 points victory. However, this was not enough as D’Tigresses did enough to hold on to the lead and qualify for the final.

D’Tigresses would face either one of Senegal or Mozambique in the final on Sunday.
