The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, Dr Olusola Odumosu, has urged officers to maintain strong physical and mental fitness to enhance efficiency and operational readiness.

He made the call after leading officers and men of the command on a 10-kilometre route march across Abuja on Saturday. The exercise, which began at the FCT Command Headquarters, passed through Wuse Market, Wuse Zone 3, Wuye Bridge, and Berger Junction before returning to base.

According to a statement by the command spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, the march was aimed at building endurance, discipline, and teamwork among personnel while reinforcing the spirit of comradeship within the corps.

Dr Odumosu said the exercise aligned with the command’s efforts to reposition for better service delivery and combat readiness. “Beyond routine duties, physical training prepares officers to meet emerging security threats with strength and confidence. Readiness is not a one-time act but a continuous commitment to discipline and self-improvement,” he stated.

He added that the route march demonstrated the command’s preparedness to tackle vandals and criminal activities across the FCT.

The commandant praised the enthusiasm and commitment of participants, describing the march as the maiden edition of a regular exercise to strengthen morale and resilience.

Reaffirming his commitment to the NSCDC mandate, Odumosu said the command would sustain collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders to maintain peace, protect infrastructure, and ensure safety in the FCT.

The Acting Director of Sports at the NSCDC National Headquarters, Deputy Commandant Oladipo Lawal, commended the initiative and encouraged its continuity, noting that such activities would improve personnel performance.

The event concluded with medical checks, massages, and recreational games, including tug of war, table tennis, and Ayo.

Recently, the FCT Command deployed 4,500 personnel to ensure a secure 65th Independence Day celebration in Abuja, in line with its expanded surveillance mandate.
