Osimhen Ruled Out of Super Eagles Friendlies Against Ghana, Mali Due to Injury

By Yusuf Abubakar

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have announced that Victor Osimhen will miss the upcoming friendly matches against Ghana and Mali due to an injury setback.

In a statement shared on the official Super Eagles’ X account, the team disclosed that the 25-year-old striker sustained an injury, rendering him unavailable for selection in the forthcoming encounters.

Osimhen, who plies his trade for Napoli, was not featured in his team’s recent Serie A fixture against Inter Milan, where they secured a 1-1 draw. Reports suggest that the striker has been dealing with inflammation on the scar tissue of a previous injury.

Alongside Osimhen, several other players have also been ruled out of the friendly matches due to injury concerns. This includes Taiwo Awoniyi, Tyrone Ebuehi, and Gabriel Osho, the latter being a new invitee from Luton Town.

As the Super Eagles regroup for the upcoming friendly ties scheduled for later this month, no replacements have been announced for the injured players.

The Eagles are set to face Ghana in their first international exhibition game on March 22 at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in Morocco, followed by a clash against Mali on March 26 at the same venue.

In the absence of a permanent manager following the departure of Jose Peseiro, George Finidi will lead the Super Eagles in both friendly encounters as they aim to maintain their competitive edge ahead of future tournaments.
