Ramadan: Adamawa Govt Eases Restrictions on Tricycles Operations

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

The Adamawa State Government has announced a revision in the operational hours for tricycles, locally known as Keke NAPEP, in Yola North, Yola South, and Girei local government areas (LGAs) during the Ramadan fast.

Previously, Keke NAPEP operators in the affected LGAs were required to cease operations by 10:00 pm daily.

However, under the revised directive, they will now be permitted to operate until 11:00 pm, with the restriction period starting at 11:00 pm and ending at 5:00 am daily during Ramadan.

The adjustment in operational hours aims to accommodate Muslim faithful participating in tafsir sessions during the fasting period, according to a statement released on Sunday by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

The statement highlighted that the decision was made to facilitate religious activities during Ramadan, underscoring the state government’s commitment to ensuring the smooth observance of religious practices while maintaining security measures.

The restriction on Keke NAPEP operations in the three municipal LGAs was initially implemented in February 2021 due to security concerns.

The Adamawa State Restriction of Movement of Tricycles/Motorcycles Executive Order No.1 of 2021 was enacted to address security challenges in the region.

While easing the restriction for the Ramadan period, the government has instructed security agencies to enhance security measures, particularly in the three affected councils.
