Real Madrid to Appeal Ronaldo’s Red Card at Barcelona

By Farouk Mohammed

Real Madrid will appeal Cristiano Ronaldo’s red card at rivals Barcelona, manager Zinedin Zidane has said.

The Portugal international received the marching orders after coming on for Karim Benzema in the second half of their Spanish Super Cup duel on Sunday.

He was booked (yellow card) for taking off his shirt in celebration after scoring.

Ronaldo soon went into referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea’s book again for ‘simulation’ although television replays showed the Portugal star lost his footing due to the challenge of Samuel Umtiti.

“We played a great game but I am annoyed by Cristiano’s sending off,” The Mirror quotes Zidane as saying.

“Perhaps it wasn’t a penalty but the red card is a little harsh. We can’t change it, but we’ll try and make sure he plays on Wednesday.”
