Ruben Amorim Announced as Manchester United’s New Manager

By Yusuf Abubakar

Manchester United have announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the club’s new manager.

The 39-year-old Portuguese coach joins United on a three-year deal, with an option for an additional year, after departing Sporting Lisbon.

In a statement on Friday, the club confirmed that Amorim would not assume managerial duties immediately, as he awaits approval for his work visa. His official start date at Old Trafford is set for November 11. Until then, former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to serve as interim manager.

The managerial change comes following Erik Ten Hag’s dismissal on October 28 after United suffered a 2-1 defeat to West Ham. This marked United’s fourth loss in the English Premier League this season, dropping them to 14th place in the standings. The team’s struggles have extended to the Europa League, where they are winless after three consecutive draws, currently sitting 21st out of 36 teams.

Amorim, widely regarded as one of Europe’s top emerging managers, brings a proven track record to United. He guided Sporting Lisbon to two Primeira Liga titles, breaking a 19-year title drought with the club.
